Empowered to Create: Sanakshika’s Path Through COIE

Sanakshika Sharma, a recent Centennial College graduate and international student, joined COIE to gain hands-on exposure to innovation and entrepreneurship beyond the classroom. She was motivated to learn how ideas turn into real solutions, strengthen her problem-solving skills, and understand how innovation can create meaningful impact for students and communities.
Through COIE Demo Day preparation sessions, Sanakshika shifted from conceptual brainstorming to structured, execution-focused thinking. She learned how to clearly define problems, identify target users, and articulate value with confidence, developing a strong changemaker mindset grounded in clarity, creativity, and action.

Two venture ideas from Sanakshika
SafeReads: Our library’s high-touch surfaces may host unseen microbes. My project samples these areas, identifies contamination, and tests whether current disinfectants work or if eco-friendly options perform better. By revealing hidden risks, this research promotes awareness, stronger hygiene, and a healthier, smarter learning environment for everyone.
NanoFresh Coating: This project explores a natural way to keep fruits fresh using an edible chitosan nanoparticle coating. The biodegradable layer slows oxidation, prevents browning, and blocks microbial growth without chemicals. By extending shelf life sustainably, it reduces food waste and improves the safety and quality of everyday produce.
